562676_265946953496899_195059759_nBALTIMORE, MD ? May 29, 2013 ? The first annual?Giddy Up for the Cure?will take place at?MaGerk?s Pub and Grill?in historic Federal Hill on?June 14, 2013. For just $10, from 7-10pm, guests will enjoy good company, $2 domestics, $4 well drinks and glasses of wine and $5 MaGerk?s cheese steaks. There will also be a silent auction, raffles and door prizes from generous donors. Also, 10% of all drink and food sales that night will be donated to?The Cure Starts Now Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure to pediatric brain cancer.

A group of Baltimore area residents have set out to bring awareness to pediatric brain cancer, a realm of the cancer world that remains grossly underfunded. Crista and Erika Hajiantoni have organized?Giddy Up for the Cure, a benefit in memory of Erika?s boyfriend?Ryan Coffey, who passed away from a rare form of brain cancer.

?A 0% survival rate is a prognosis that no one should ever face but that was the reality of Ryan?s diagnosis. Someone has to be that first miracle case of survival and a cure. We hope that miracle will come soon and that maybe our tragic loss of Ryan?s inspirational spirit played some small part in that,? Erika said.

Ryan Coffey?lost his battle with?DIPG, or?diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, after only 10 months. Brain tumors are the 2nd?leading cause of cancer death in children under age 20. Of those who survive, many suffer from chronic illness, secondary cancers, diminished cognitive abilities and significant social impediments. With DIPG, less than 10% will live longer than 18 months from diagnosis.

Ryan was 26 at the time of his diagnosis and was not the typical DIPG patient, yet he faced the same limited treatment options which have remained largely unchanged for 30 years. Ryan was an adventurous person who lived his life like there was no tomorrow even before he knew his time was limited.

?Giddy Up? was Ryan?s ecstatic reply to any new opportunity or exciting quest. He was a giving soul and encouraging friend to all he met and his greatest joy in life was bringing people together in friendship and community. He would be thrilled that his life inspired an event like?Giddy Up for the Cure.
