It is time of that month, what should I eat, not eat...etc? | The Rosse's ...

In my memory and experience. In Phils. I was thought to not take a bath on a first day and once my grandmother told me don't wash to often down there if you are having period.(Find this ludicrous actually)They believe by washing too often wind would go in there and will cause you more cramps. On foods I have always been particular on food. What should I eat and not eat and drink during this time of month? I will share with you some of the things I follow, and some info's I found on some websites :-D

Foods that should be avoided
1) Sweets, soda, cake or candy - to prevent a rapid heartbeat, dizziness, fatigue.

2) Beverages containing caffeine. - It is advisable to drink barley tea or mint tea.

3) Alcohol ? But beers do wonders for me before ? it reduces my pain and cramps

4) Tea ? Some women will get a heavy flow due to the tannins tea contains but me it will stop the flow.So this depends on some women.

5) Salty food. - It will makes you retain water and give you a puffy and bloated feeling.

6) Acidic, pungent and stimulating foods - hawthorn berries, sauerkraut, vinegar, pepper, mustard etc.

7) Cold Water

8) Chiled fruits, desserts and drinks ? it will cause cramps and spotting

9) Cooling Herbal Tea - Chinese believe that ladies should avoid taking cooling food and drinks during period. So herbal tea and drinks like barley or chrysanthemum tea should be avoided.

10)Certain Fruits - Pineapples and water melons. Both fruits are considered ?cooling? and pineapples in particular will increase the menstrual flow and your menstrual blood will get a foul smell. Other such as pears, water chestnuts, wax gourds also to be avoided.

11) Dairy Food. This doesn?t apply for all women, but its better to take caution as dairy food might make women feel terrible.

Suggested Foods and Drinks
1) Warm water - Will make your body feel warm and thus pain will be reduced .Also advisable to drink days before you know your period is coming to prevent and lower the pain.

2) Chocolates - acccording to some websites, it?s good to eat chocolates contains complex carbohydrates that helps your body expose off excess progesterone, which is the main culprit of PMS.

3) Iron Rich Foods ? to replace the iron loss

4) Warm foods ? foods that will make your body warm :-) If you eat cold foods or ice, you should drink brown sugar and ginger to balance and promote the circulation of blood within the body.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that heat promotes blood circulation while the cold slows it down. Eating cold foods not only hinders digestion but also harms the body's yangqi, causing the production of internal cold, which causes stagnation. It will slow down the circulation of blood, causing a lack of blood and even dysmenorrhea.

5) Foods rich in high fiber - such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, brown rice, and oatmeal. These foods promote hormone production and increase the level of magnesium in the blood. It can regularize the cycle and calm the nerves.

6) Protein Rich Food - like meat, eggs, tofu and soybeans to supplement the nutrients and minerals that are lost during the cycle. Women facing menopause should eat foods rich in calcium, like milk and dried fish.

If you are having cramps ? drink a glass of warm water, rest and lie down on your stomach.

please comment if you want to say anything :-)
