Through the joint venture, which will be named Mo?t Hennessy Shangri-La (Deqin) Winery, both companies plan to start producing their first high-end wine brand within five years. Mo?t Hennessy's investment reflects its optimism in the Chinese wine growth story, which is underpinned by the demand dynamics of rising consumer affluence, growing health awareness and increasing consumer familiarity with quality wines. We like Mo?t Hennessy's strategy of linking up with a domestic wine producer to facilitate its expansions in China, and we believe that such an approach should leave it better equipped to deal with the tricky operating challenges in the market.
