• 1975: Danny Klassen born. Klassen just missed out on being another Diamondbacks' Olympian - he represented Canada at the 2004 Games in Athens, but they lost to Japan in the bronze medal play-off. He was part of their 2006 WBC roster, but a knee injury forced him to withdraw. His major-league career was over before either of these: he fringed his way through four years here and one in Detroit, but hung around in the minors until as recently as 2008. Not sure where he is now though, seems to have dropped off the map, at least as far as Google is concerned.
  

• 2007: Chris Young hit his ninth lead-off homer, tied for the fifth-best single-season total in Major League history, and the Diamondbacks never looked back, beating the Dodgers 6-2 at Chase Field. Mark Reynolds reached safely all four times he was up, with two hits and two walks, and there were two hit games for Eric Byrnes and Stephen Drew. The former's pair of stolen bases moved him past Steve Finley into second place on the franchise?s single-season list - he has now been overtaken by Chris Young, but even CY is 70 behind the leader, Tony Womack.
• 2008: Stephen Drew became the third shortstop in history with at least 40 doubles, 10 triples, and 20 home runs in a season (Nomar Garciaparra in 1997; Robin Yount in 1980 and 1982). He came in with 41, 11 and 19 respectively, reaching the third mark with a 6th-inning solo homer, as Arizona beat St. Louis 4-2. Drew finished a triple short of the cycle, driving in two runs, and Conor Jackson had a pair of hits. Brandon Webb allowed two runs over seven innings, scattering eight hits and two walks, while striking out six.
• 2011. The Diamondbacks had an off-day, the Pirates leaving town, and the Giants not starting their weekend series until tomorrow. However, it was still a good day, San Francisco losing 8-2 in Los Angeles. That defeat left the D-backs "dormie 6" as they say in golf - six up with six to play, needing just one win, or a Giants loss, to clinch the title. Of course, the next three games provided an ideal opportunity for both...
