Protecting My Credit Health From Scams ? hot news

Your credit health is very important to you. But just like your physical health it is something that you can take for granted until it is too late. Credit scams are many and varied nowadays, and I never realised quite how prevalent they were until I happened to glance at my credit card statement a few months back.

There was a charge on there for nearly three hundred US dollars, spent in a location that I had never visited in my life. It was hundreds of miles from where I lived, so not only did I call the credit card provider to report the fraud, I was also able to provide proof that I hadn?t made it. It did all get resolved very quickly, thanks to the efficient actions of the provider, and my credit health wasn?t impaired. But it just goes to show that anyone can be the victim of a scam. The question is this ? how do you avoid them in the first place and keep your credit score intact? Here are some practical tips that I practise every day, to ensure my information remains secure and it doesn?t happen again. Make sure you use them too. 1. Don?t let anyone see your pin number. Always cup your hand around the terminal when you enter it. Look round first to make sure no one is behind you. Don?t be apologetic ? it?s private information for your eyes only. 2. Always make sure you have your personal space when using cash machines. Stand as close to it as possible so you block the view of anyone behind you. The hand cupping technique works well here too. And yes, do look behind you! If you feel someone is standing too close and you are suspicious, walk away and use another machine. 3. Always check for the https:// and the padlock symbol online. These will protect your information from being seen by others. 4. Check all your statements to make sure they are correct. Don?t just pay the balance ? make sure you check all the charges and you can verify you made them. Query anything out of place immediately. 5. Never let anyone take your card out of your sight. This can sometimes happen in restaurants. If the waiter or waitress tries to do this, get up and go with them. You have a right to stay with your bank card. I always use these methods, and I feel a lot safer for doing so. They don?t make me completely immune to problems, but they do help to protect my credit score from being abused by other people. You can take charge of yours too if you are responsible with your personal information. You can never be 100% protected all the time, but you can certainly achieve 99.9%. And that is a lot safer than many people are when it comes to falling victim to the scams.
