New Delhi, Jan 15: India and Pakistan are currently undergoing great deal of tension as soldiers of both countries are exchanging fire at Line of Control (LoC). Under such tense environment, sporting activities between the two neighbours have also come under the scanner.
On Monday, Jan 14, activists from the Hindu Yuvak Sabah of Hindu Sena protested the participation of Pakistani players at the inaugural match of the Hockey India League (HIL). The incident happened at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. The protesters shouted anti-Pakistan slogans.
According to media reports, a couple of men carrying placards went onto the playing area that is strictly prohibited. However, they were immediately overpowered by the security guards.
The protests by activists occurred during the second quarter of the match between Delhi Waveriders and Jaypee Punjab Warriors.
Tension between India and Pakistan escalated after two Indian Jawans were brutally killed and their bodies subjected to inhuman mutilation by Pakistani soldiers in Poonch area. Indian establishment has expressed strong protests against the inhuman killings of its jawans.
Army Chief General Bikram Singh has made it clear that the Indian soldiers deployed in Jammu and Kashmir will strike back strongly if there is any further provocation from their Pakistani counterparts.
"I have given very categorical directions to the Northern Command. When we are provoked we shall respond immediately. I expect my commanders to be aggressive in the face of firing," Singh said.
He condemned Pakistani troops for flouting rules of engagement by mutilating the bodies of Lance Naik Hemraj and Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh. The Army Chief termed the killings as a "gruesome and unpardonable act".
