NY Mayor 2013: Republicans Dash For Cash

I reported earlier on the topline campaign finance filings of (likely) Democratic 2013 mayoral hopefuls. Here's a quick glance at the GOP side of the aisle.

cash gift.jpgManhattan Media Publisher Tom Allon has raised about $286,000, but has spent nearly all of it on building a campaign infrastructure, leaving just $10,000 in his account. He says he's gotten about 730 donations to fuel his run and is on his way to reaching the 1,000-donor threshhold for matching funds.

A second hopeful who joined the GOP in anticipation of a mayoral bid, Doe Fund President George McDonald, says he?s garnered just over $277,000 in donations from 81 sources since he started fundraising in earnest last month and has about $155,000 cash on hand left to report to the CFB.

McDonald, who's in the process of suing over the city campaign contribution limits, also reports he's signed fundraiser Christina Sofia-Comer, who has previously rounded up campaign cash for the likes of Rudy Giuliani, Harry Wilson, John Faso, Chris Gibson and Randy Altschuler.

Not everyone?s preoccupied with scrounging for contributions...

Supermarket magnate John Catsimatidis, another Republican seeking the mayoralty, has already seeded his account with about $1 million of his own money and has vowed to spend as much as $20 million of his fortune -- plus accept contributions -- to win the race.

Several others in the crowded GOP field, including unofficially official contender Joe Lhota, have not yet formalized their candidacies, meaning they get to hold off on reporting until the next deadline.
